Selma has a high number of
transient residents
While most transients are characterized as homeless citizens roaming the streets, there is a secondary form of transiency. This question I take is related to the turnover of residents in any given area.
This turnover has a significant effect on business performance and business planning. Businesses that are established in town with transient residential populations are constantly fighting to regain the same group of consumers they are losing over and over again. With transient residential populations, these liabilities are rarely converted to profits because the consumer base is constantly revolving.
The end effect of a transient residential population on business is failure. Small businesses are the ones who most greatly feel the effect of transient residential populations and are nearly always doomed to fail from the start.
Both residents and business owners have complained about the high cost of electricity in Selma
Yes I think this is a valid complaint. I feel that most of the residents don't understand the contract Town of Selma has on getting its power and where they fit in the chain. Residents buy from Selma, Selma buys from Electric City, and Electric City buys from Duke Power. My plan is to get Selma out from being the the third party.

What is the greatest need in new businesses for the town
It time to get back to what the citizens in Selma is looking for, nationally branded restaurants, nationally branded Hotels, department stores, grocery stores, coffee shops, Great Hot Dog shop, clothing shops, and even hair salons. Citizens are looking for places down town where they can come and shop.
What major issue does Selma facing in the next five to 10 years
We have to start now on how to tackle long-range issues like aging infrastructure, debt financing and the role of federal money. Selma will soon face major repair and replacement costs that could put a strain on the town's budget, and the bad thing about it many of those projects will come due around the same time. If we start planning now, we'll have time to be in position to handle problems in the future, I may not see it in my life time but the future generation will.
Town officials need to be shifting the way they plan for infrastructure needs by spending more on regular maintenance rather than waiting for a major repair or total replacement. Regular maintenance can help extend the life of a fire hydrant, for example, from 25 years to a century.
I recommended that the town account for infrastructure repair and replacement in future budgets as ongoing spending rather than a one-time expense. I also think the town should create new replacement funds for general facilities and storm-water projects.
Let's take the Car Taxes we pay each year. A 2012 Ford is taxed $338.53 by the county and the Town of Selma gets $133.88 of that. (Just for one car), 2001 Ford is taxed $58.38 and Selma gets $22.29 of that.
Our roads are also in the same boat, we have to repair / pave more than one road a year.
Selma should seek more opportunities to partner with the town of Smithfield and other towns in the future
Let take the Police Dept, we all know that we have to have cars for them to do their jobs. If Selma has to have 3 new cars, Smithfield 4, Pine Level 1, Kenly 2, Wilson Mills 1, why not go in together and buy at BULK to save money. To me it seems that Selma's 3 cars will not cost as much, we save by buying in BULK.
This can be done across all the depts. within the towns. Think about the money we could save!!!!!
Let face it, Selma will not survive on its own, we have to start partnerships with others
Make Selma a better place to live, work and raise a family Selma is still in the 20th Century and we need to get to the 21st Century. We need to take off the blinders and start working for the future.
Thirty One years of business experience has given me the knowledge to make sound leadership and business decisions.
Issues facing the town "Crime" is number 1 …. We have to be on top of it to make Selma a better place to live

Town of Selma, North Carolina 1867-2017

Selma, North Carolina 27576
Selma was officially chartered as a town on February 11, 1873. Selma was born as a Railroad Town, and our rail heritage is still evident - from our recently renovated 1924 passenger Depot, which supports AMTRAK service, to our Mitchener Station, built ca. 1855, thought to be the oldest surviving train station in North Carolina. We welcome residents and visitors alike with our vibrant shopping district, specializing in antiques with something for everyone.
